Jan Skrok was born 22 Jun 1892 in Kaliszany, Wojciechowice, Radom, Russia

I never knew my mother’s father Jan Skrok. He died in Buffalo, Erie, New York, on 15 May 1936, decades before I was born, soon after my mother’s fifth birthday. Jan Skrok was the son of Wincenty Skrok and Maryanna Kasprzyk. He was born 22 Jun 1892 in Kaliszany and baptized in Wojciechowice, Opatów, in the Russian occupied Radom Province.

The infant was baptized on this date by the Roman Catholic priest W. Fudalewski, abbot, and was given the name Jan. Godparents were Leon Gorazd and Anelja Wozignoj. Godmother Aniela Wozignój was Maryanna Kasprzyk Skrok‘s younger half-sister. After the death of Maryanna‘s father Jan Kasprzyk, Maryanna‘s widowed mother Małgorzata Bartkiewicz Kasprzyk married Jan Wozignój. Małgorzata and Jan‘s daughter Aniela Wozignój married Michał Podgórski on 9 Nov 1895. The couple had two sons, Stanisław, born 30 Dec 1899, and Feliks, born 17 Oct 1902. Sadly, Aniela Wozignój Podgórska died 14 Jan 1905 at the age of twenty-five.

Jan Skrok was baptized by Abbot Władysław Fudalewski, a Polish Roman Catholic priest, pastor of Kościół św. Wojciecha w Wojciechowicach, Church of St. Wojciech in Wojciechowice, and other appointments, as well as a journalist and regionalist, author of several books.

Maryanna Kasprzyk, daughter of Jan Kasprzyk and Małgorzata Bartkiewicz

Jan‘s mother Maryanna Kasprzyk was the daughter of the late Jan Kasprzyk and Małgorzata Bartkiewicz. Sadly, Maryanna‘s birth record says that her father died in September 1869, before her birth in February 1870.

Małgorzata Bartkiewicz Kasprzyk then married Jan Wozignój. They had two daughters, Aniela (1880) and Wiktorya (1882).

When Małgorzata Wozignój died in Stodoły 20 February 1915, the death record said she was seventy years old and her father was Maciej Bartkiewicz. Unfortunately, Małgorzata‘s mother’s name had been forgotten. I found information that Maciej Bartkiewicz had been married to Jadwiga Frańczak, so that may have been her mother’s name.
