As listed on the Poznań Project, the marriage was registered in Mocker in Thorn, West Prussia. The village of Mokre was incorporated into the city of Toruń in 1906; it is currently a district on the right bank of the Vistula River in Toruń in Kujawsko-Pomorskie, the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland. Because this area was German in 1875, the marriage record is in German.

Places in Prussia and Congress Poland

Nineteenth century records for these families were in Polish, Latin, German, and Russian because they were Polish Roman Catholics and the places in which they lived were occupied by the Prussian and Russian Empires in the 1800s.

This Google map shows these places as they currently exist in Kujawsko-Pomorskie, the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland.

Ancestors of Stanisław Winialski and Marianna Waleńska

The research of our mutual relative in Poland, JC, has shown that Salomea Lewandowska was the sister of Łukasz Lewandowski, my great-great-great-grandfather. JC has done an especially fine job with our family tree in his MyHeritage website. He discovered that his great-great-grandmother Anastazja Lewandowska Wilczewska and my great-grandmother Weronika Lewandowska Maciejewska were sisters. We are indebted to him.

Along with many other wonderful volunteers, JC has kindly donated his time indexing Polish records on Geneteka, and these have helped immensely in tracing these family relationships. If you can, please consider a small donation to keep the indexing and digitization of Polish records going with the Geneteka and Metryki databases of Polskiego Towarzystwa Genealogicznego, the Polish Genealogical Society, at https://genealodzy.pl/tpay/donacje.php. If you wish to support the Poznań Project, make a donation by noting “donation for the Poznań Project” at https://www.paypal.me/PoznanProject. Sites like these make Polish family research both fun and productive.

Update May 2020: corrected place from Kazimierzewo to Kazimierzowo (Zbójno) between Obory and Ruże.
